Something To Do Thanksgiving Weekend

كتب بواسطة :aymen | mercredi 21 novembre 2012 | 0
This amazing poster by designer Jana Laidlaw is called, "Light."  I love it so much!  It's available now at Print Aid NYC100% of proceeds goes towards hurricane relief.  It really doesn't get any better than this.

If you'd like to join in with The Mormon Helping Hands this Friday, Saturday or Sunday, volunteers will be going out in force to help with storm relief and clean up efforts in Staten Island and Coney Island.  It's a super organized effort.  After going out there every weekend, I can tell you that it makes a HUGE difference to be with a group.  I can't even imagine showing up at a home with 1 or 2 or even 4 people.  The tasks are just too huge.  There is nothing like 10-20-30 people per house working to get stuff done.  It's an experience you will never forget!!  Tasks will include removing damaged property and damaged sheetrock/carpet, water removal, cleaning houses, etc., depending on the requested help.  All are welcome.  All hands are needed.  Danny and I will be going to Coney Island on Saturday.

Storm Relief and Clean-up on Friday (1 location only this day):

Where to Meet: Command Center at the Bensonhurst Mormon Chapel (2455 86th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11214) - accessible by Subway.
When: Friday, 11/23.  Arrive between 8:30-10 am to receive safety instructions and an assignment in the Coney Island/Gerritsen Beach neighborhoods. Work in the field will end at 4:00 pm.
Transportation: Volunteers will need to organize their own transportation to the site as the Command Center will not be providing that assistance this day.
Who: Any volunteer aged 16 and older
What To Do: Simply show up at the above location.
Details: Volunteers will be organized into work teams, receive instructions, and go to assigned areas. Please wear appropriate work attire (work boots if you have them) and bring sufficient food and water (e.g. sack lunch) for yourself for the entire day. Please bring any tools or equipment you have that would be helpful (work gloves are a must! - preferably with rubber liners, face mask, eye protection, crowbars, hammers, large garbage bags, cleaning supplies, etc.) There will also be some work supplies provided at each meeting location, in addition to a yellow vest - which is important for safety and group purposes out in the field.
